Today was a pretty good Sunday that consisted of watching football and going to the Nutcracker. While Johnny watched football, I was able to clean 80% of my room. I don’t really enjoy watching football but it’s always fun watching the Texans play a good, nail biting game. And it’s always funny to see Johnny’s reactions to the plays.

Johnny and I got tickets to the Nutcracker later in the evening so we got dressed up for that. We had dinner at Michaelangelo’s which was my second job ever. It was weird to be back because out of everyone that was working that night, I only saw one familiar face and I’m pretty sure he didn’t remember who I was. After dinner, we rushed to the theater district to try and find parking which ended up being a crazy experience. There were lots of people rushing to go to the different holiday shows so they were all trying to pack into the different parking garages available in the area. We managed to get to the Wortham Center in time to find our seats and use the restroom (Johnny, haha). The Nutcracker was a really good show! My childhood ~dream~ of watching the Nutcracker IRL finally came true and I am a happy girl.

We left the show blasting N Sync’s “Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays” in search of some frozen yogurt (Johnny has been craving it for the past week). Surprisingly Menchie’s in the Heights is open late on Sunday evenings. If you thought YogurtLand or Swirll has some unique flavors, you haven’t been to Menchie’s. They had peppermint, angel food, glazed donut, different sorbet flavors and others. And their topping list is pretty expansive. Toppings include mochi, boba, sweetened condensed milk, marshamallow fluff, and your typical chopped candy bar, cereal, and fruit.

tl;dr My Sunday didn’t consist of me watching Lifetime movies and being lazy which pretty much happens almost every Sunday.

The foie gras I had at Branch Water Tavern was way too salty. I think I can still taste it at the back of my throat. This was only my second time eating foie gras. The other time was last year at Mark’s. They served it perfectly seared and buttery.

Last night, I told my mom I am getting fat. She told me that it’s true because she notices that my butt is getting bigger. #goodnewsbadnews.

For the past two weeks, I’ve been checking HAR.com and Craigslist every couple of hours religiously, hoping that a listing of the apartment of my dreams will pop up. This past week, my roommate and I decided that we will not continue living together because we are too different and can’t agree on a good location to live next year. She wants to move closer to school but stay in the Medical Center and I would like to move closer to work (pretty much down the road from UH) - and we wanted to stay within a $1200-1261 budget. Needless to say, we weren’t going to find a complex within that price range in that area (or any area inside the loop) so we decided to part ways. It was amicable. It made things easier for me because there are more 1/1 options in the Montrose/Museum District area in the price range I am comfortable with.

Although there are options, they’re not always the best ones. I’ve been stressed this week trying to find a really nice apartment but I know that’s not going to happen unless I increase my budget to $800. I found an apartment that’s within my price range and it’s really cute but I’m afraid it may be too small. I think I can make it work though. I turned in my application and I’m hoping to be approved just so I can be done with looking for an apartment.

My waxist was the one who told me about Hard Core Pilates. Today, when I went to see her, she felt my legs and was all “wow, you’ve gotten less jiggly”. Okay, well maybe not that blunt but I could tell that’s what she really wanted to say. I can’t really say I see an improvement in my body from doing pilates. I’m pretty sure I’m doing something wrong. Either my form is not right or I actually have to watch what I eat. Meh, I really enjoy going. It definitely beats my previous work out of doing nothing all day.

After that, I went to Academy to try on some Nike Free running shoes. I need another pair because the ones I bought are for training so I use those during pilates. I will use the new ones specifically for running outside so I don’t have to worry about getting them dirty then going to class tracking dirt and bacteria all over my machine (I like wearing shoes on the reformers during class).

Came home and my roommate and her boyfriend bought crawfish for us to eat! So nice of them! If she keeps feeding me crawfish, I have no problem washing all the dishes for her. The crawfish were from Boiling Crab and they were perfectly seasoned - not too spicy and not too bland. Since it’s only the start of the season, there were a bunch of tiny crawfishes in our batch.

Later in the afternoon, I went to City Center for the first time. City Center is one of the most well developed shopping/business centers in Houston. It contains expensive restaurants and cute stores. I went into Anthropologie and Free People to try and find stuff for SXSW and came out with nothing. I get a bad case of anxiety when I shop with other people so there’s only a certain few that I like shopping with. I think that’s why I wasn’t in the mood to shop. While at City Center, I went into SWEET, a cupcake shop that’s managed by one of my friends. It’s super cute and they have Nutella, tiramisu, and green tea flavored cupcakes. Everyone should take go visit, order a cupcake and get a tapioca drink!

End of the day.

i feel like part of a mural at a museum.
it’s past 10:30pm and i’m about to get something greasy to eat. all i had to eat today was my company’s potluck thanksgiving food during lunch which wasn’t all too great but i ate a lot of it anyways. i took my dog to his dog training class and he was the only one who did rollover today. i’m so proud! my room is still unkept and gross. i WILL clean during the break.

yesterday after work, i rushed to make it to the north side of town to pick up a dresser and night table i found on craigslist for $75. half way there, i call the guy to tell him i’m omw and he tells me that his mom made him sell it to their housekeeper for $50.

today, i passed by a vintage schwinn bike tied up to a pole in front of an auto repair store on fairview with a sign that said $20 on it. i went around the block to pick it up and an old hick man was already talking to the owner about it.

this has happened to me before. deals that are too good always manage slip past me. every time i try to buy something second hand, the deal ends up never going through.
